The Tangram
The Tangram is a deceptively simple set of seven geometric shapes made up of five triangles (two small triangles, one medium triangle, and two large triangles), a square, and a parallelogram. When the pieces are arranged together they suggest an amazing variety of forms, embodying many numerical and geometric concepts.
Children learn to recognize and identify geometric shapes. They will also become confident in understanding geometry and how geometric shapes can be decomposed and recomposed into new shapes. Second, it builds visual-spatial skills as kids learn how to manipulate the shapes.
There are many benefits to playing with Tangrams.
